Piano retreats at Bentworth

Situated in the heart of Hampshire’s countryside, we offer a unique piano immersion. This perfect getaway is located near Bentworth, in a grade-listed Victorian gate lodge away from distractions for an authentic musical experience.
Students get the chance to play on a stunning concert grand piano C. Bechstein D 280, maintained by one of the best concert piano technicians in the world.
The courses are available for all ages and levels.

I am an experienced piano teacher with over forty years of experience. I taught in France and in India, welcoming students from all over the world. Since 2011, I have been running a studio in the UK. My practice includes yoga, music history and musicology, the art of piano performances, not forgetting piano building and tuning – a unique experience to learn more and in a different way about this magical instrument.

What to expect?

  • Experience a better postural sitting position, if needed supported by a revolutionary custom-made cushion I designed in 2009.
  • A new ‘art du toucher’ mainly based on the Scaramuzza School’s principles which ultimately leads to an outstanding ‘cantabile’ touch.
  • A comprehensive and more relaxed way of tackling a new piece, including sight reading.
  • How to rework your past and current repertoire in a more conceptual vision.
  • How to deeply enjoy your practice, eventually triggering a ‘self discovery’ journey.
  • Above all, how to appreciate the joy of music making.

How do these retreats work?

  • We can only accommodate one person at the same, or a couple, making these one-to-one lessons friendly and always based on mutual exchanges.
  • We offer accommodation and shared homemade meals. We can pick up and drop off at Alton Railways Station if you decide to come by train. Otherwise, there is plenty of space to park in front of the house.

Am I suitable for them?

All are welcome, whether you are a complete beginner, a student from a conservatoire, an advanced amateur, or even a professional.
The lessons are tailored to your needs and to your goals, therefore you will always receive personalised guidances.

What is the cost?

You will be charged per day:
  • Without accommodation: £130 which includes three hours of one-to-one lessons (refreshments included).
  • Including overnight accommodation and meals: £170.

Chosen words from students:

‘Mr Tran gave a deeper understanding of the relation between sonority and the way we play. This yielded in a more profound awareness of how to apply our skills to make better music.’ (Rob D., Holland)
‘It has been very inspiring to work with you! I am sure that many things will be useful for the rest of my life when making music as a performer’ (Ha Y. S., Sweden)
‘Thank you for showing with me your thoughts, your feelings and your wisdom about music and beyond. Your lessons changed something within me, and I will treasure this new dimension of piano playing (and more) for the rest of my life.’ (Thomas L., Switzerland)
